Install the app

Choose your platform on the download page.

  • macOS. Open the disk image and drag codef into Applications. The build requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later.
  • Windows. Run the x64 installer and follow the setup steps.
  • Linux. Make the AppImage executable and open it. For example, run chmod +x codef-1.2.2-Linux-x64.AppImage and then ./codef-1.2.2-Linux-x64.AppImage.

Connect a cloud model

  1. Open Settings → Models and API.
  2. Choose your provider, paste its API key, and select a model.
  3. Check the connection, then save and send a short message.

Cloud models process requests on the provider’s servers and may charge for usage.

Run a model on your computer

  1. codef includes Ollama on macOS. Install and start Ollama separately on Windows and Linux.
  2. Open Models and downloads → Hugging Face, find a model, and choose a GGUF file by size.
  3. Download it, open Installed, and select Use next to the model.

Once the download finishes, the model can reply offline. Browse local models.

Send your first message

Select Chat on the left, start a new chat, and ask a question. To work with files in a folder, switch to the project agent.
