Choose a project and assign a task
- Switch to Agent and choose a project folder above the message field.
- Give the agent a concrete task, such as finding where a menu is defined and suggesting a smaller layout.
- Before approving an edit or command, check the path and proposed change.
- Open an edit card to review the diff. You can undo an edit while the file still matches the applied change.
File and command permissions
Choose permissions above the input. Set defaults for new chats in Settings → Agent behavior.
- Read only. The agent reads project files.
- Ask first. codef asks before edits and commands.
- Automatic edits. Edits apply immediately and commands require approval.
- Full access. Edits and commands run with your user permissions.
Files the agent reads may be added to the model context. A cloud model sends that context to its provider.
Context for long tasks
The indicator above the input shows context usage. Choose Compress context to continue with a summary while keeping the chat history. Adjust the context size in Settings → Models and API within the limits of your model.
Tools and skills
Import text instructions from SKILL.md in Plugins and
skills. The file uses name and
description fields.
To connect an external MCP service, provide an HTTPS URL. codef supports Streamable HTTP with no authentication or with a bearer token. Check the connection to see its available tools.
